This St Paul home is a log sided single story with a long, low pitched roof plane and a covered porch running most of the front elevation. The original asphalt roof had reached the end of its service life, with worn and lifting shingles across the main slope, so the homeowner opted for a full tear off and replacement rather than another round of patching.

Work started with site protection. Our crew laid tarps across the lawn and garden beds along the full drip line and kept the driveway clear for material handling, because on a home like this the landscaping and the play area sit directly under the eaves. Ladders went up at both ends of the run so the crew could move without crossing the same section twice.

The old roof came off down to the deck, which let us see the sheathing before anything new went over it. Tearing off completely rather than laying over is the part homeowners do not see and the part that decides how the roof performs, because a second layer hides soft decking and adds weight without adding life.

Synthetic underlayment went down across the full deck as a secondary water barrier, then Owens Corning Duration architectural shingles were installed over it. Bundles were staged along the ridge so the crew could work the courses evenly across the run rather than carrying material up repeatedly through the day.

The job finished the way every Freedom Exteriors job finishes: the site cleaned, debris hauled, and a magnetic sweep run across the drive and lawn for nails. The homeowner is left with a new roof, a workmanship warranty from us on top of the manufacturer material coverage, and a yard their family can use the same evening.
